Pentalia

The old village of Pentalia is largely abandoned as the government moved most people out to the new village following the Earthquake in 1953.
Most people now live in the new village which is slowly establishing itself as a thriving community.
Situated between Amargetti and Panagia this village sits on a plateau with wonderful views to the Troodos Mountains and down to the coast.

Panagia Sinti (Holy Virgin of Sinti) is an old monastery in the Xeros valley close to the village of Pentalia in Paphos. It was most probably founded during the Venetian rule of Cyprus. After the 16th Century it became a metochi of the Monastery of Kykkos. The monastery was always sparsely inhabited by monks. The last time it had monks was 1927.
The name Sinti comes from the nearby stream, which means forceful, damaging.
Between 1994 - 1997 restoration took place under the initiative of Abbot Nikiforos of Kykkos Monastery. In 1997 the Europa Nostra award was given to the monastery.
