Paphos Harbour Fort was originally built by the Byzantine to protect the harbour area, it was dismantled by the Venetians and rebuilt by the Lusignans back in the 13th century. Dismantled again in the 16th century by the Venetians as they were unable to defend it against the Ottomans. The Ottomans then restored and strengthened the structure once they had captured the island.
Paphos Harbour Fort now remains empty, except as a tourist attraction, where you can enter and let your imagination run wild as you think of all the history these walls contain.
You will find a range of restaurants and souvenier shops close to the fort and also a number of boat trip companies.
There is ample free car parking in the municipal car park close by.
